SUMMER SOLSTICE

So this evening we went to fetch Dragutin, the other guy staying with us in this family, he is from Croatia and he is really nice and speaks good English so I am happy that I am not so alone...then we came home and met Federica (?) I think thats how it is spelt, Daniela (the mom's) daughter who is really sweet and also speaks english, she is 26 I think.... so then we had some time off and then we got ready to go out to dinner.

We drove to a really stunning part of Rome called Trastevere. It has cobbled streets and loads of restaurants and bars, etc. Federica said that it used to be a really poor part of the town in the olden days but then people realized that it was right int he centre of Rome and built on it and developed loads of pubs and restaurants and stuff and now it is one of the most expressive areas around. It was really nice there, I love walking around town on a warm night with lots of people laughing and street music and stuff, really a pleasant night :) So for dinner we had a whole lot of typical Roman pasta that we all just shared to try everyone's....we also had a whole bunch of bread, brusque, calamari and fish (which i was too full for), spinach and these really cool deep fried things. So in these things it was mozzarella, zucchini flowers and anchovies, so yes I actually ate one and it was really good...so I can say I have tried two new things tonight (zucchini flowers and anchovies) although I honestly didn't like the anchovies, far too fishy for my liking...but the was only a little, etc so yeah :)

So then we walked around a bit and the streets were packed because along the main river running through Rome, there was this massive carnival to celebrate the summer solstice :) I had no idea it was already there (haha suckers :) its the winter solstice for you...) and it was beautiful seeing all the colourful lights and stuff from the carnival! So now I am sitting alone in my room, it is very different to being in a room with Sara, I am not used to being by my own and stuff, but I think I'll manage will just go on Facebook and stuff till I'm super sleepy :) which is not too far away...

Ok well tomorrow Federica is taking the two of us to a lake where we can swim :D and it is meant to be super hot so that is nice :) I am also going to try to sort out my sim card and computer tomorrow so we'll see how that goes...
Night night, lots of love!

  2. Hi love, it sounds so different to your previous family, and nice. I am sure you are going to have a fab time. Don't stress about the computer - if the apple shop can sort it out, great - if not, so be it. And I am sure you will get your sms going tomorrow. So, just spend your precious time enjoying Rome. The week will be over before you know it! Thanks so much for these fantastically vivid and informative blogs - one can really imagine being there. Lots of love, Dad
