LIONS CAMP ITALIA
Wow, so I finally have a computer where I have the chance to blog for a little while :D
I am now going to (èprobably terribly) attemp to describe my camp to you in one, short post but here it gos...
So we started out in Florence....The first day was amazing! We arrived at our hostel and it was just so fubn andinteresting to meet everyone and find out about their contries and how their home stays were and stuff, etc... we all swam and played volleyball and stuff while chatting and then we had dinner. After that w just sat outside and stuff till really late... For the two days we were in Florence we did a whole lot of sight seeing of the typical famous buildings like churches and parliment and stuff, we also had free time to shop and look around. The next day we went to the leaning tower of Pisa which was also amazing! I cannot actually describe how cool it is, I mean yeah, we have all seen the pictures and stuff but to see it in real life is so weird.... By this point we had sort of made closer friends with some of ther people and even though we don't have groups and the leaders encourage us to get to know eveyone by putting us with different people in rooms and stuff, my little group, if you will, consists of me, Shayni (west virginia, USA), Melissa (California, USA), Alex (he's from Michigan I think, USA), Jon (Arizona, USA), Kristin (Canada), Amadeusz (Poland) and Claudio (itlay)....
So anyway, it is really nice because they give us quite a bit of free time where we can just go off and do our own thing and that sort of independence is nice to have and also makes everything a little less rule-orientated and school-ish, etc :) So then we went to Sardinia... We drove on the bus (we do so much travelling! I am definitely going to need a chairopractor after sleeping on ferries, busses, planes and trains for a month)... anyways, the bus ride was quite long as we drove to the port where oput so called 'ferry' was waiting... We left at about 11pm but this was no ferry. It was honestly a full-on cruise ship! It had a pool and bars and resturants and stuff and so because the cabins (there were 9 floors) were so tiny, we spent most of the night up at the bar and on the deck... Then next morning we arrived in Sardinia. Sardinia was really cool, a bit of a let down though as I had expected something different i guess... So on that first day we got on a boat (this time a legit ferry) and went to all of the surrounding islands and swam in the warm mediteranean and tanned on the white beaches, it was really nice! :) So we spent two days there by the beach, and then we moved on a long bus drive down to Cagliari, the capital of Sardinia. This was also really cool and we mostly spent time shopping and looking at old buildings and museums. The next moring, bright and early, all 50 of us headed to Sardinia airport to catch a plane to Venice! We had to stop at Rome on the way, but when we fnally arrived there, it was amazing!!
I absolutly loved Venice!! It was by far my favourite city...it is weird to see a city where there are honestly no cars and just water everywhere! I also didnt expect to see the main canal to be so big, and to actually have waves and stuff....Venice was a little cooler too.... We had lots of free time afdter dinner at night and our hotel was right near a famous square called St Marco's square, so lots of tourists and stuff again. We wre there for three nights. On the last day, we went to Murano, a small island about an hour ferry ride from Venice. This is the sopt famous for glas production in the world and we got to see them make some of their ornaments and stuff and we also had lunch there.
The next day we got on the bus and left for the port at the coast close to the island of elba...We rove for a long time but finally arrived around 7:30pm :) We went to have dinner (which was really good) and then had free time to shop and stuff again. That brings us to today. The second day in Elba. We went to visit the fortress of the people who used to own Florence and were supposed to visit the house of Napoleon, but very sadly, it was under reservation...anyway, then we had lunch and then went to the beach where we could swim in the very warm, cristal clear water... then we had free time, which is now I guess. Tomorrow is the last day in Elba, then we leave for Florence again for another two nights. After that, we move by bus to Rome for the last three nights and then I can finally come home :D
I am having a fantastic time!! I am really enjoying the camp, a lot more than my home stays, although don't get me wrong, they were great too! Only 6 days till I can come home, and depite the great experience, I'll be ready... :) I hope I can blog again soon but maybe not, so if not, pray for a safe flight home and I'll see you all soon soon :)
With lots of love......
- Caity xx
